Nelson Resources updates field operations in western Kazakhstan

Nelson Resources Ltd., Toronto, reported broad progress with its oil field operations in western Kazakhstan and acquired controlling interest in Chaparral Resources Inc., Houston, key participant in Karakuduk field.

HOUSTON, Aug. 16 -- Nelson Resources Ltd., Toronto, reported broad progress with its oil field operations in western Kazakhstan and acquired controlling interest in Chaparral Resources Inc., Houston, key participant in Karakuduk field.

Net production from all fields in which Nelson holds interests was a record 17,600 b/d of oil in June. Kazakhoil Aktobe (KOA), a state concern in which Nelson holds 50% interest, debottlenecked processing facilities at Alibekmola field to a capacity of 25,000 b/d and began planning to raise that to 42,000 b/d.

KOA added three producing wells, bringing gross Alibekmola production to 21,505 b/d in June. KOA released one drilling rig and was considering whether to contract another deep capacity rig for the pilot development program at Kozhasai field. KOA also completed the Kozhasai early processing facility.

North Buzachi field yielded 7,957 b/d from 44 wells at the end of June, when a drilling program began that will continue through yearend. Three workover rigs and one drilling rig are running, and a central processing facility and gathering station are under construction.

A heater-treater was moved to Arman field to increase processing capacity to 11,000 b/d from 10,000 b/d. Karakuduk field operator CJSC Karakudukmunai, a unit of Chaparral, reported field production at 8,056 b/d from 51 wells, including 47 flowing wells, at the end of June.

Nelson acquired 60% interest in Chaparral, giving Nelson a 36% interest in Karakuduk field production. Drilling and workovers continued in the field.
