HOUSTON, Aug. 24 -- LG-Caltex Oil Corp., part of the Korean LG Group conglomerate, has awarded Haldor Topsøe AS, Lyngby, Denmark, a contract to convert two hydrotreating units at its LG Caltex 650,000 b/d refinery in Yosu, South Korea, to produce ultralow-sulfur diesel. It is the country's second largest refinery, and provides 30% of the nation's oil supply.

The revamped units—one 60,000 b/d and one 70,000 b/d—will give a product containing less than 8 ppm (wt) of sulfur and a color of L1.0. The stringent color specification requires the use of Topsøe's proprietary color post treatment for reducing the product color to L1.0.

Topsøe will supply the license, basic engineering, reactor internals and catalysts, and will provide supervisory services.
