HOUSTON, Aug. 11 -- Esso Rep, the E&P arm of Esso SAF (Société Anonyme Française), and Lundin Petroleum AB, Stockholm, gauged 36° gravity oil at the rate of more than 1,600 b/d in the South Mimosa-1 exploration well in the Aquitaine basin.

Producing formation is a sandstone of Purbeckian (uppermost Jurassic) age at about 3,300 m TVD. The test produced no water.

The companies will fast track the development, but further evaluation of the discovery well will be required to define the final development of Les Mimosas field, the 50-50 partners said.

The discovery well is near the Bay of Biscay on the Lege exploration permit, which contains Les Pins, Courbey, Les Arbousier, and Tamaris fields currently producing a combined 2,800 b/d.
