Brazil's ANP qualifies 24 firms for its sixth oil, gas licensing round

Of 30 applicants vying to participate in Brazil's sixth oil and gas round scheduled for Aug.17-18, a record 9 Brazilian and 15 international companies have qualified, reported the country's National Petroleum Agency (ANP).

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug.13 -- Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) has qualified a record 9 Brazilian and 15 international companies to participate in its sixth oil and gas round scheduled for Aug.17-18.

Participating for the first time were Brazilian companies Arbi Petroleo Ltda., W. Washington Empreendimentos e Participações Ltda., and Schahin Engenharia Ltda.; and Australian company PortSea Oil & Gas NL.

ANP will offer 913 exploration blocks totaling 202,739 sq km in 12 sedimentary basins. Deepwater blocks are available in Pelotas, Santos, Campos, Espírito Santo, Jequitinhonha, Camamu-Almada, Sergipe-Alagoas, Pará-Maranhão, and Barreirinhas basins.

Shallow-waters blocks are in Santos, Campos, Espírito Santo, Barreirinhas, and Foz do Amazonas basins.

Onshore areas are in Espírito Santo, Recôncavo, and Potiguar basins.
