Kerr-McGee reaches first production from Bohai Bay fields

Kerr-McGee China Petroleum Ltd., a wholly owned unit of Oklahoma City-based Kerr-McGee Corp., has reached first production from four wells at its development of the CFD 11-1 and CFD 11-2 fields on Block 04/36 in Bohai Bay, China.

HOUSTON, July 23 -- Kerr-McGee China Petroleum Ltd., a wholly owned unit of Oklahoma City-based Kerr-McGee Corp., has reached first production from four wells at its development of the CFD 11-1 and CFD 11-2 fields on Block 04/36 in Bohai Bay, China.

By the end of this month, the company expects to have a total of 10 wells on line, and estimates that production from the wells will be 15,000-20,000 b/d.

Kerr-McGee will bring additional wells on production over the next 2 years, with peak production expected to reach 40,000-45,000 b/d by mid-2005.

Kerr-McGee, with 40% interest, serves as operator. Partners in the development are CNOOC Ltd. 51% and Ultra Petroleum Corp. unit Sino American Energy Corp. 9%.

CFD 11-1 and CFD 11-2 are being developed using the Hai Yang Shi You 112 Kerr-McGee Global Producer VIII floating production, storage and offloading vessel, which has a production capacity of 80,000 b/d of oil and 350,000 b/d of gross liquids.
