HOUSTON, June 25 -- Gasoductos de Tamaulipas (GT)—a special-purpose company formed by Pemex Gas y Petroquimica Basica of Mexico and Houston-based El Paso Energy—awarded GE Energy's pipeline integrity operations unit a multimillion dollar, 6 year contract to provide maintenance and inspection services for GT's San Fernando natural gas pipeline in northeastern Mexico.

The contract is for all related inspection and maintenance work for the 120 km, 36-in. line, which extends from a connection to existing Pemex pipeline assets in Los Indios, Tamaulipas state, to San Fernando. The contract also covers two new compression stations erected at Los Indios and El Caracol for the project.

The pipeline is transporting 1 bcfd of gas from the US, but ultimately will carry gas from the onshore Burgos basin gas fields.

GE Energy's unit, which is based in Northumberland, England, will provide all equipment and personnel for the work, which includes an integrity and quality audit, a cleaning evaluation, cleaning runs, and a baseline inspection and reinspections when necessary. GE Energy will first initiate a baseline inspection during the second quarter.
