HOUSTON, June 11 -- The national oil companies of Libya and Tunisia are seeking investors and an operator to explore new plays and prospects on the 7th of November block in the Pelagian basin.

Joint Oil, owned by Libya National Oil Corp. and Tunisia's ETAP, was granted the block in 1988 on the Libyan-Tunisian continental shelf. The block covers 741,000 acres in 80-120 m of water 100-160 km off the North African coast.

Just outside the block are giant Bouri oil and gas field on the southeast in Libyan waters and Isis oil field on the north, Miskar gas-condensate field on the west, and Zarat oil and gas-condensate field on the southwest, all in Tunisian waters.

Drilling on the block includes Zohra-1 in 1978, El Amal South-1 in 2000, and Besmah-1 and El Amal North-1 in 2002. Without specifics, Joint Oil said oil and gas shows were found. Seismic includes 6,500 km of 2D data and 670 sq km of 3D data.

Joint Oil points to potential in Eocene El Garia nummulitic limestone, Cenomanian carbonates, and Turonian-Coniacian Miskar carbonates.

Data rooms will be set up June 15-July 15 at Beicip Franlab, Paris, and July 1-31 at Joint Oil, Djerba, Tunisia.
