HOUSTON, June 15 -- Heritage Oil Corp., Calgary, operator of the Turaco-2 well on the Block 3 license in Uganda reported the well was drilled and logged, but wellbore instability caused the drill string to stick while reaming in preparation for testing. Following unsuccessful attempts to free it, Heritage and 50:50 joint venture partner Energy Africa abandoned the well in favor of an optimized appraisal program for future drilling.

Heritage chose another rig for immediate mobilization into Uganda to accelerate the drilling program as rapidly as possible.

The JV also plans to acquire a 350 sq km 3D seismic survey by October for $6 million that will delineate several structures identified by three seismic surveys conducted during the last 5 years. The survey will identify additional drilling targets for the two rigs that will be in country.
