FERC approves Freeport LNG receiving terminal

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has authorized Freeport LNG Development LP to site, construct, and operate an LNG receiving terminal at Quintana southeast of Freeport in Brazoria County, Tex.

HOUSTON, July 21 -- The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has authorized Freeport LNG Development LP to site, construct, and operate an LNG receiving terminal at Quintana southeast of Freeport in Brazoria County, Tex.

Freeport LNG filed an application for the permit in March 2003, seeking authorization to construct and operate the facility with an initial processing capacity of 1.5 bcfd. Facilities also will include 9.6 mile, 36-in. send-out pipeline (OGJ Online, June 20, 2003).

Freeport LNG Investments LLC holds a 60% limited partnership interest, Cheniere LNG Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Houston-based Cheniere Energy Inc., has a 30% interest, and Contango Oil & Gas Co., Houston, holds a 10% interest.

Dow Chemical Co. and ConocoPhillips have agreements with Freeport LNG for all of the facility's capacity (OGJ Online, Mar. 9, 2004).
