ExxonMobil awarded operatorship in new North Sea license off Norway

An Exxon Mobil Corp. unit was awarded operatorship and 30% interest in a new license involving an unexplored area in the southern North Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

HOUSTON, June 15 -- An Exxon Mobil Corp. unit was awarded operatorship and 30% interest in a new license involving an unexplored area in the southern North Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Esso Exploration and Production Norway AS said its operatorship covers blocks 8/6, 9/2-6, 10/4, 10/7-9, and 11/7 in the Norwegian-Danish basin 100 km southwest of Egersund. Partners are Statoil ASA 30%, and RWE DEA AG 10%. The Norwegian state financial interest is 30%.

ExxonMobil, the largest international producer on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, had 2003 net total production in Norway of 391,000 boe/d.
