Drilling activity rebounded this week

North American drilling activity rebounded with 1,187 rotary rigs operating in the US this week, 19 more than the previous week and up from 1,071 in the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. said Friday.

HOUSTON, June 11 -- North American drilling activity rebounded with 1,187 rotary rigs operating in the US this week, 19 more than the previous week and up from 1,071 in the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. said Friday.

Land operations accounted for most of that gain, up by 16 rotary rigs to 1,070 working in the US. Offshore drilling increased by 6 rigs to 98 in US waters, including a gain of 5 to 95 in the Gulf of Mexico. However, inland waters activity declined by 3 rigs with 19 still working.

Canada had 273 rotary rigs working this week, up by 17 from the previous week but down from 315 a year ago.
