HOUSTON, June 11 -- North American drilling activity rebounded with 1,187 rotary rigs operating in the US this week, 19 more than the previous week and up from 1,071 in the same period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. said Friday.
Land operations accounted for most of that gain, up by 16 rotary rigs to 1,070 working in the US. Offshore drilling increased by 6 rigs to 98 in US waters, including a gain of 5 to 95 in the Gulf of Mexico. However, inland waters activity declined by 3 rigs with 19 still working.
Canada had 273 rotary rigs working this week, up by 17 from the previous week but down from 315 a year ago.
