HOUSTON, May 21 -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic), Riyadh, has awarded a lump sum, turnkey contract to Linde AG of Germany to perform the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 150,000 tonne/year linear alpha olefins plant at the site of subsidiary United Petrochemical Co.'s plant at Jubail Industrial City (OGJ Online, Jan. 9, 2003).

The olefins plant, the first of its kind using the a-Sablin technology that Sabic and Linde jointly developed, will use ethylene as feedstock for a one-stage homogenous reaction that produces alpha olefin cuts C4-C20, which are then fed to conventional separation columns to obtain specified cuts and quality.

The facility is scheduled for completion by third quarter 2006.
