HOUSTON, Apr. 22 -- Total Exploration & Production Angola (Block 32) Ltd. (TEPA), operator of deepwater Block 32 off Angola, has made a second oil discovery on the block.

The Canela-1 well, 140 km off Angola in 1,540 m of water, was drilled in 1,540 m of water and tested at 6,800 b/d of oil from one reservoir. The well lies in the eastern part of Block 32 about 15 km southeast of Gindungo-1, the first discovery on Block 32 announced last year. TEPA will now conduct engineering and geological studies to assess the well's potential output, and plans to drill a third well in midyear.

Angola's state-owned oil company Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol P&P), is concessionaire of Block 32 with a 20% interest. TEPA and Marathon Oil Corp. unit Marathon International Petroleum Angola Block 32 Ltd. each hold 30%, ExxonMobil Corp. unit Esso Exploration & Production Angola (Overseas) Ltd. holds15%, and Portugal's Petrogal SA unit Petrogal Exploracao 5%.
