HOUSTON, Apr. 23 -- Intec Engineering of Houston created a new business unit to support energy companies in the evaluation and development of offshore LNG systems.

Jerry Wenzel, Intec's vice-president of LNG Engineering Services, said the new business unit was created to help customers define the feasibility of LNG projects and enable economic delivery of stranded gas.

"The business is extremely challenging, as no one has ever built an offshore terminal," said Wenzel. The industry is focused on four types of LNG offshore terminals: floating units, gravity-based units, conventional fixed platforms, and tanker-based regasification units.

New technologies and other emerging configurations of these systems also are being developed. Wenzel said he has identified additional LNG companies for partnerships to help customers address issues such as processing and offshore regulatory permitting.
