ChevronTexaco awards Tahiti engineering contracts in Gulf of Mexico

ChevronTexaco subsidiary Chevron USA Inc. has awarded Technip Offshore Inc. the front-end engineering and design (FEED) of a proposed truss spar floating production facility for deepwater Tahiti field in Green Canyon 640, 641, and 596, about 190 miles southwest of New Orleans. Mustang Engineering Inc., Houston, will perform FEED for the facility's topsides oil and gas processing facilities.

HOUSTON, Apr. 15 -- ChevronTexaco subsidiary Chevron USA Inc. has awarded Technip Offshore Inc. a contract for front-end engineering and design (FEED) of a proposed truss spar floating production facility for deepwater Tahiti field in Green Canyon 640, 641, and 596, about 190 miles southwest of New Orleans.

Mustang Engineering Inc., Houston, will perform FEED for the facility's topsides oil and gas processing facilities. FEED work is slated to begin in the second quarter along with a production test of the discovery well. ChevronTexaco said one of the wells encountered more than 1,000 ft of net pay.

Construction contracts will be awarded in second quarter 2005.

Tahiti partners are operator ChevronTexaco 58%, EnCana Gulf of Mexico LLC 25%, and Shell Exploration & Production Co. 17%.
