Qatar Petroleum awards JGC an ethylene cracker expansion contract

Qatar Petrochemcial Co. Ltd. awarded Japan's JGC Middle East a lump-sum contract for design, procurement, construction, and services to expand an ethylene cracker plant in Masaieed from 525,000 tonnes/year to 720,000 tonnes/year.

HOUSTON, Mar. 30 -- Qatar Petrochemcial Co. Ltd. awarded Japan's JGC Middle East a lump-sum contract for design, procurement, construction, and services to expand an ethylene cracker plant in Masaieed from 525,000 tonnes/year to 720,000 tonnes/year.

The contract, worth 20 billion yen, was signed Mar. 25, and completion is slated for the second half of 2006.

Qatar Petrochemical said the expansion will improve operating efficiencies and utilize byproducts, which will be sent for processing to customers within the Mesaieed complex.
