HOUSTON, Feb. 3 -- Statoil ASA reports that Glitne field in the North Sea now is thought to have more than 50 million bbl of crude oil—double the company's original estimate—and the field is expected to produce until 2007 from six wells instead of the three originally planned (OGj Online, Aug. 29, 2001).

The additional reserves, Statoil said, are valued at 5.2 billion kroner at today's oil price. The field is located on Blocks 15/5 and 15/6 in the Sleipner area of the Norwegian North Sea about 40 km northwest of Statoil's Sleipner East development.

Glitne is being produced using Petroleum Geo-Services' Petrojarl I production and storage ship, which has been chartered for 2-3 years. Production is set to reach a plateau of roughly 40,000 b/d.

Owners are Statoil with 68.9%, TotalFinaElf Exploration Norge AS 21.8%, and Norsk Hydro Production AS 9.3% (OGJ Online, June 28, 2000).
