Statoil contracts Transocean Searcher for Asgard drilling

Statoil ASA has presented rig contractor Transocean Offshore with a letter of intent to charter the Transocean Searcher drilling and completion unit for its Åsgard license in the Norwegian Sea.

HOUSTON, Jan. 19-- Statoil ASA has presented rig contractor Transocean Offshore with a letter of intent to charter the Transocean Searcher drilling and completion unit for its Åsgard license in the Norwegian Sea.

The contract, initially for 300 million kroner, involves the drilling of three wells through the new Q subsea template on the Smørbukk South deposit.

The contract includes 95 days of work on other wells and contains options for three 1 year extensions.

Transocean Searcher currently is working in Statoil's Sleipner fields in the North Sea and is due to mobilize on Smørbukk South during the first half of this year.
