Dolphin awards platform contract for North field development project

Dolphin Energy Ltd. of the UAE has awarded a $190 million contract to J. Ray McDermott for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of two integrated drilling and production platforms for Qatar's North field development project. This contract is part of Dolphin's $3.5 billion project to supply the UAE with as much as 3.2 bcfd of natural gas from the gas field.

HOUSTON, Jan. 12 -- Dolphin Energy Ltd. of the UAE has awarded a $190 million contract to McDermott International Inc. subsidiary J. Ray McDermott for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of two integrated drilling and production platforms for Qatar's North field development project. This contract is part of Dolphin's $3.5 billion project to supply the UAE with as much as 3.2 bcfd of natural gas from the giant gas field (OGJ Online, Feb. 6, 2003).

The platforms, DP1 and DP2, each will contain a drilling and production platform, bridges, and a flare tripod. Each 6060 tonne platform will be situated in water less than 185 ft deep.

Detailed engineering is under way at J. Ray's engineering offices in Houston. The project management team will coordinate the project from the company's office in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Construction is scheduled to begin at J. Ray's Jebel Ali yard in May.
