HOUSTON, Dec. 19 -- Sonoran Energy Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., announced Friday that London-based oil consultant Paul Bristol was appointed the company's new chairman, president, and CEO.

Bristol, an Iraqi oil and natural gas expert, will lead Sonoran Energy's strategic move into pursuing oil and gas opportunities in the Middle East, the company said.

In addition, Sonoran Energy said it will open an office in London. Bristol succeeds John Punzo, who resigned as CEO and from the board. Punzo will remain with Sonoran Energy for the next month to ensure a smooth transition.

Sonoran Energy's primary objective is to build itself into a major oil and gas corporation concentrating mainly in Iraq but with a background of developing oil properties in the US.
