HOUSTON, Nov. 13 -- Arrifi Nawawi, the new president of Pertamina LLC, said his strategy is to emphasizes transparency and good governance while guiding the company to focus its resources on upstream operations.

Indonesia's state-owned oil company recently became a limited liability company.

During an interview with the Indonesian newspaper, Kontan, Arrifi said his priorities for 3 months will be to increase the restructuring pace and ensuring that management and staff are aligned to the objectives.

Efforts at changing Pertamina's image and structure are closely related to Arrifi's plans for an initial public offering in 2007. Giving himself 3 years to streamline management, daily operations, and overall organization, Arrifi said it's essential to have a fully developed, transparent, law abiding institution to position the company for an IPO.

Pertamina's business plan calls for it to focus 70% of its resources on upstream operations and will increase production reserves.
