HOUSTON, Oct. 7 -- Trunkline LNG Co., a unit of Southern Union Co., has awarded an $80 million lump-sum, turnkey contract to Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. NV (CB&I), The Woodlands, Tex., for an LNG terminal expansion project in Lake Charles, La.
The contracted work on the terminal, which is owned and operated by Trunkline LNG, will increase the facility's send out capacity from 630 MMscfd of gas to 1.2 bscfd, CB&I said. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2005; the terminal will remain operational during the expansion work.
The contract includes the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a new 140,000 cu m LNG storage tank; modified send out pumps and vaporizers to increase plant send out; and related civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
CB&I said it has familiarity with the area. In 1958, CB&I said it designed and built the first large field-erected LNG storage tank at a US import-export terminal in Lake Charles from which the first transatlantic shipment of LNG was shipped in 1959. And, in 1981, CB&I designed and built the three existing 600,000 bbl LNG tanks at this terminal.
