HOUSTON, Oct. 6 -- Brazil's state-owned oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded 2H Offshore Engineering, a UWG Group company, a contract for riser engineering services for the Brazilian operator's P51 production platform to be installed in Campos basin off Brazil in 1,255 m of water.

The contract's value was not disclosed.

The scope covers the detail design of an 18-in., free-standing hybrid riser for oil export, 2H said. The contract covers detailed analysis, hardware design and specification, installation engineering, and technical support through manufacturing and installation phases.

The riser is considered an "attractive" solution for P51 since its diameter and depth combination is outside that of qualified flexible pipes, 2H explained.

The 18-in. riser is a larger-diameter riser than those to be used in Angola, so we are opening ourselves to other design configurations and installation methods that best suit Petrobras," noted Frank Lim, 2H project manager.

The fast-track project will primarily be conducted out of London.
