HOUSTON, Sept. 10 -- Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has selected the Fels Setal/ Technip-Coflexip consortium to perform construction and integration of the hull and topsides-utilities of its planned P-52 offshore platform. Although the consortium, which bid $701 million for P-52, also was low bidder for construction of the P-51 platform, Petrobras' bid specifications preclude the same company from winning both contracts.
Other bidders for P-52—the Construtora Norberto Odebrecht - Saipem SPA consortium and Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.—both tendered bids exceeding $1 billion, which Petrobras considered too high, and it is conducting direct negotiations with them for the contracting of P-51.
Petrobras also is negotiating contracts with other companies whose bids were considered excessive for the gas compression modules and the electricity generation modules.
The two platforms, each with a production capacity of 180,000 b/d, are to be positioned in the Campos basin, P-51 in Marlim Sul field and P-52 in Roncador field, both deepwater locations.
