HOUSTON, Sept. 8 -- Perenco Cameroon SA, London, reported Thursday that it is evaluating results of the first exploration well on the Ebodje Permit, of which it is operator, in the Douala basin off Cameroon.

The Hakuryu-5 semisubmersible drilling rig spudded well CM-1A May 17 in water deeper than 400 m and reached 3,168 m TD on June 20.

Well operations completed July 6 after encountering hydrocarbon shows. The well was then plugged and abandoned, and the rig released.

Perenco is a unit of Paris-based independent E&P company Perenco SA. Its partners in the Ebodje Exploration Permit, which was awarded in April 1998, are Mobil Producing Cameroon Inc. and Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures, Cameroon's national oil company.
