ConocoPhillips announces downstream organization changes

ConocoPhillips US refining will be placed under the leadership of a Central-West Coast president and an East-Gulf Coast president. The operational general manager roles in US refining will be eliminated, resulting in the removal of that layer of management, the company announced.

HOUSTON, Sept. 26 -- ConocoPhillips US refining will be placed under the leadership of a Central-West Coast president and an East-Gulf Coast president. The operational general manager roles in US refining will be eliminated, resulting in the removal of that layer of management, the company announced.

Larry Ziemba, general manager of refinery services for US refining, will become president of Central-West Coast refining.

Bob Hassler, general manager of northern Europe for international downstream, will become president of East-Gulf Coast refining.

Tom Nimbley, president of US refining, has elected to retire Dec. 31, ending 30 years of service.

Effective Oct. 1, ConocoPhillips' specialty businesses will be consolidated with the strategy, optimization and business development group and will be named the strategy, integration, and specialty businesses.

Willie Chiang, general manager of western US refining, will become president of strategy, integration, and specialty businesses.

Richard Severance, senior vice-president of strategy, optimization, and business development, has elected to retire effective Dec. 31, ending 33 years of service.

As part of ConocoPhillips' plan to sell a substantial portion of its marketing assets and exit certain geographic markets, the company's wholesale and retail marketing functions will be consolidated.

Mark Harper, wholesale marketing president, will assume responsibility for the retail stores that are retained by ConocoPhillips and become president of US marketing, with responsibility for wholesale and retail marketing.

Dave Holthe, retail marketing president, will continue to lead the ConocoPhillips retail organization associated with the disposition currently under way and will leave ConocoPhillips at the close of the final transaction.
