BANGKOK, Aug. 15 -- Unocal Thailand Ltd, a subsidiary of Unocal Corp, has awarded a 10-year contract to Teekay Shipping Corp. for the long-term lease and management of a floating storage and offloading vessel for its crude oil production in the Gulf of Thailand.

The new vessel, to be named Pattani Spirit, will replace the 630,000 bbl Sibeia tanker that is now used to store crude oil produced from the Plamuk, Surat, Yala, Platong, and Kaphong fields off Thailand.

At a shipyard in Singapore, Teekay will convert the 790,000 bbl Namsan Spirit Aframax tanker, increasing its storage capacity to 850,000 bbl. Afterwards, the renamed vessel will be installed in the gulf in second quarter 2004.

Unocal Thailand is producing an average of 20,000 b/d of light sweet crude oil from its gulf fields. Cumulative oil production since production start up July 2001 is about 8.5 million bbl.
