HOUSTON, Aug. 7 -- Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded a $31 million contract to Halliburton Co. unit Halliburton Energy Services—through its Brazilian subsidiary— for a 274-ft, world-class well stimulation vessel to optimize production in Petrobras' Campos basin off Brazil.

Campos basin accounts for about 80% of Brazil's oil production, and most oil produced in this area comes from unconsolidated sand that needs sand control and stimulation methods, Halliburton said.

From the 17,500-hydraulic-hp vessel, which is equipped with Level II dynamic positioning and other sophisticated technology, Halliburton will provide sand control, fracturing, acidizing, and pumping services and products for 2 years, and has an option for 2 additional years.

Services include engineering, stimulation equipment, fluids, and completion equipment, including a new seawater-based fluid system, proprietary expandable screens, and flow service to improve production from horizontal sand control completions. It also will use an in-house patented process to stimulate the horizontal wellbores.
