HOUSTON, July 23 -- Marathon E.G. Production Ltd., a unit of Marathon Oil Corp., reported making a natural gas discovery on Block D off Equatorial Guinea. The discovery well is on Bococo prospect in 238 ft of water about 6 miles west of Alba gas-condensate field.

The well, which was drilled to 6,110 ft TMD, found 185 ft of net dry gas pay. The well has been suspended for reentry at a later date. "The Bococo gas discovery complements the adjacent dry gas discoveries on Block D for future development," Marathon said.

Plans call for the gas to be developed through the proposed LNG project associated with Alba field on Bioko Island, explained Philip Behrman, Marathon senior vice-president, worldwide exploration.

Marathon serves as operator of Block D with 90% interest. South Korea's SK Corp. holds the remaining block interest.
