HOUSTON, June 9 -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) said Wednesday it had contained a 15,000 l oil spill that occurred during unloading of the Nordic Maritas tanker Tuesday at the pier of Almirante Barroso terminal in São Sebastião (SP).

Prompt action prevented the oil from reaching beaches and other coastal areas, Petrobras said.

"There is no more oil in the São Sebastião Channel, and the remaining spots have been dispersed," the company said in a written statement. Contingency teams, assisted by boats and special equipment, remain working at the site and continue to monitor the area.
