HOUSTON, May 19 -- India has initiated a new exploration program, offering 24 blocks in both proven and highly prospective areas, including ultradeepwater blocks for the first time. Areas under the NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy) IV round include 11 onshore blocks, 1 block offshore in shallow water, and 12 deepwater blocks.

NELP IV was launched in New Delhi May 8, and promotional road shows are scheduled to kick off in New Delhi Tuesday, followed by showings in international energy hubs London June 5-6, Calgary June 9-10, Houston June 11-12, and Perth. June 26-27.

The program is being executed against the backdrop of recent large deepwater gas discoveries made in the Krishna-Godavari basin. A total of 9 discoveries having initial in-place reserves estimated at a total of more than 300 million tonnes of oil plus oil-equivalent gas, were made under NELP in less than 3 years.

Hard copies of basin information dockets and data packages of exploration blocks offered under NELP IV are available for inspection at data viewing centers at New Delhi, Houston, and London and on the NELP IV website, with additional information at www.indigopool.com for further details.
