GE Oil & Gas to supply compression units for three Italian pipeline stations

HOUSTON, May 23 -- Snam Rete Gas awarded GE Oil & Gas, a Florence, Italy-based unit of GE Power Systems, a contract to supply three new compression units and services for three compression station, on the Snam Rete Gas's pipeline system.

The $43 million contract calls for the first unit to be shipped in the first quarter of 2004, with commercial operation expected during the third quarter of that year. The equipment will be manufactured at the GE Oil & Gas plant in Florence, Italy.

The three compression stations are Gallese, Tarsia, and Melizzano. Each compression unit will include a GE PGT-25 gas turbine with an ISO-rated power output of 23 Mw, and a PCL602 centrifugal compressor.

In addition to supplying the equipment, the contract includes erection, commissioning and startup activities, spare parts, and training. Under a separate, 10-year contractual service agreement, GE will offer operation and maintenance services for the three compression units.
