HOUSTON, May 27 -- ChevronTexaco Corp. has named John D. Gass corporate vice-president in charge of the newly former ChevronTexaco Global Gas (CTGG), effective June 1.

Currently, Gass is managing director of ChevronTexaco's Southern Africa business unit in Luanda, Angola. James R. Blackwell, president of ChevronTexaco Pipeline Co. since May 2002, will succeed Gass as managing director in Luanda.

Gass will be responsible for building ChevronTexaco's global gas business by commercializing existing resources and developing new opportunities. He also will oversee ChevronTexaco's shipping company and pipeline operations. In addition, Gass will serve as a director for the London-based Sasol Chevron Ltd. gas-to-liquids joint venture.

ChevronTexaco and the South African-based energy and petrochemical group Sasol Ltd. are developing a GTL plant in the Escravos Delta region of southern Nigeria through Sasol Chevron (OGJ, Dec. 18, 2000, p. 46).

CTGG will involve gas-focused units including ChevronTexaco natural gas (current marketer of North American gas), the international gas group, and the worldwide power and gasification unit.
