Safco awards UHDE engineering contract for Al-Jubail fertilizer plant

Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Co. (Safco), an affiliate of Riyadh-based Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), awarded a lump-sum, turnkey contract to the German engineering company, UHDE GMBH for engineering, procurement, and construction of Safco 4, a world-class ammonia and urea plant complex to be built at Al-Jubail Industrial City on Saudi Arabia's northeast coast.

HOUSTON, Apr. 28 -- Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Co. (Safco), an affiliate of Riyadh-based Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), awarded a lump-sum, turnkey contract to the German engineering company, UHDE GMBH for engineering, procurement, and construction of Safco 4, a world-class ammonia and urea plant complex to be built at Al-Jubail Industrial City on Saudi Arabia's northeast coast.

The plant, which is scheduled for completion by late 2005, will have a capacity of 1 million tonne/year of ammonia, and 1.1 million tonne/year of urea.

SABIC is 70% owned by the Saudi Arabian Government and 30% held by private investors in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). UHDE is an industrial design and construction firm associated with the ThyssenKrupp Group.
