HOUSTON, Apr. 24 -- Rowan Cos. Inc. of Houston reported that its Super Gorilla Class jack up, Gorilla V, will resume drilling for Calgary-based EnCana Corp. A drilling contract for the rig was suspended in 2002, Rowan said.

"The rig will be utilized offshore eastern Canada for EnCana's shallow-water exploration campaign beginning in early May," Rowan reported. Initial commitment is for one well to be drilled, with "options for additional wells," the company added (OGJ Online, Apr. 17, 2003).

"The resumption of this contract reaffirms our confidence in the long-term viability of the eastern Canada market for harsh environment jack ups," said Bob Palmer, Rowan chairman and CEO.
