HOUSTON, Apr. 7 -- Anadarko Petroleum Corp, has a natural gas discovery at its Jubilee prospect in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. The discovery well, Atwater Valley 349 No. 1, which was spudded in 8,800 ft of water about 200 miles southeast of New Orleans, was drilled to 18,310 ft TD and encountered 83 ft of net pay. The company estimates the field size at 40-50 million boe.

Anadarko also said the Jubilee pay zone is "one of the primary prospective intervals" in its nearby Hawkeye prospect—at Lloyd Ridge Block 360 in 9,100 ft of water—which it soon will begin drilling. Anadarko holds 100% of Hawkeye, Jubilee, and adjacent blocks.

Transocean Sedco Forex Inc.'s Deepwater Millennium drillship drilled Jubilee, and Anadarko has committed it to a third drilling slot for possible delineation or to drill another deepwater prospect in the area. Anadarko plans to drill 40 wells in the gulf in 2003, 10 of which are exploration wells.
