Vanco Energy names vice-president of new ventures

Jeffrey L. Mitchell has joined Vanco Energy Co. of Houston as vice-president, new ventures.

HOUSTON, Feb. 14 -- Jeffrey L. Mitchell has joined Vanco Energy Co. of Houston as vice-president, new ventures. Mitchell will oversee new venture efforts by evaluating and securing new exploration projects for the company on a worldwide scale.

Mitchell has 30 years of experience in international exploration, with an extensive background in offshore, deepwater, and onshore environments including Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

Before joining Vanco, Mitchell worked for ConocoPhillips predecessor Phillips Petroleum Co. and BHP Billiton. Most recently, he served as general manager, international, with the former Denver-based Barrett Resources Corp., which was acquired by Williams Cos Inc., Tulsa (OGJ Online, May 7, 2001).

Vanco has a strong presence in offshore Africa and holds 20 million net acres off the Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Madagascar, Morocco, and Namibia.
