HOUSTON, Feb. 5 -- South Korea's Korea National Oil Co. (KNOC) has awarded a contract to a joint venture of Fluor Corp. of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and the London-based AMEC for operations, maintenance, and production management services for South Korea's first offshore natural gas development project (OGJ, Apr. 17, 2000, p. 80).

The contract—the value of which was undisclosed—covers the development and implementation of all asset management systems associated with KNOC's Donghae-1 gas field in Ulleung basin 60 km off Ulsan.

Development of Donghae-1 field involves a three-satellite subsea well system tied back to a fixed offshore production platform. The platform is connected via a subsea pipeline to a new onshore terminal on the South Korean coast at Ulsan, KNOC said.

First gas production is slated for yearend.
