RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 25 -- El Paso Corp.'s Brazilian subsidiary found oil and gas on the BM-Cal-4 block in the Camamu basin off Bahia state in northeastern Brazil, but company officials said more drilling will be necessary before they can determine if the discovery is commercial.

The company has licenses to explore and develop two blocks off southern Bahia. The BM-Cal-4 block is the first to be drilled.

El Paso owns interests in 19 blocks in Brazil. Most were bought in auctions promoted by the National Petroleum Agency.
