Murphy Oil names new presidents of US, international E&P units

Murphy Oil Corp., El Dorado, Ark., has named two presidents to direct operations for the company's two newly formed exploration and production affiliates.

HOUSTON, Jan. 24 -- Murphy Oil Corp., El Dorado, Ark., has named two presidents to direct operations for the company's two newly formed exploration and production affiliates.

John C. Higgins has been named president of newly formed Murphy Exploration & Production Co.—USA, and David M. Wood has been named president of newly formed Murphy Exploration & Production Co.—International. Both positions will become effective following the Mar. 1 retirement of Enoch L. Dawkins, president of Murphy E&P Co., who has served the company for 39 years.

Higgins joined Murphy in 1990 as a geologist. In 1993, he was named manager, Gulf of Mexico exploration, and then to vice-president, US exploration, in 1995. In 1998, Higgins was named to senior vice-president, US exploration and production. In his current position, Higgins will oversee all E&P activities, excluding Alaska.

Wood joined Murphy as manager of frontier exploration in 1994. He was promoted to general manager, frontier exploration, in 1995 and in 1997 was promoted to vice-president, frontier exploration and production. In 1999, he was named senior vice-president, frontier exploration and production. In his new position, Wood will oversee activities outside the US and Canada but will have primary responsibilities in Alaska.
