NICOSIA, Jan.14 -- Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport, La., delivered the first of four double-hull, ocean-going oil tank barges to K-Sea Transportation Corp. of Staten Island, NY.

The unmanned barge, designated DBL 101, measures 400 ft x 74 ft x 25 ft, with a total cargo capacity of 100,000/bbl. It has 10 tanks with individual capacities of 9,700-10,300/bbl in which to carry oil and petroleum products.

The vessel is equipped with vapor recovery, closed gauging, and alarm systems. It has a maximum loading rate of 17,500 b/hour, with a discharge rate of 4,900 b/hour from each of its two diesel-driven pumps.

The barge was built to a new design provided by Guarino & Cox LLC, Slidell, La., that meets the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, officials said.

A second barge, designated DBL81, is under construction at Bollinger Marine Fabricators (BMF), Amelia, La., and is scheduled for delivery this month. It is the first of two 80,000/bbl clean oil barges to be built at the Bollinger facility.
