HOUSTON, Oct. 29 -- BP Exploration Co. (Colombia) Ltd. has awarded a 5-year contract to Equipo to design, build, operate, and maintain an early production processing facility on Recetor Block in the Casanare region about 100 miles northeast of Bogota. Equipo is a Colombian company principally owned by Wood Group Engineering (Colombia) Ltd., a unit of UK-based energy services company John Wood Group PLC.
The plant will be designed to handle 30,000 b/d of oil and 80 MMscfd of natural gas, and will generate its own power. Oil from Recetor will be supplied to BP's Cupiagua central production, Wood Group said.
"The project in Recetor is an. . .opportunity taking us into the design and construction of an onshore hydrocarbon processing plant," said Arturo Diaz, Equipo's general manager. "BP's prime focus on its core business means that for this contract Equipo will perform the whole administration, operation, and maintenance of the plant."
Gas from the early production facility will be reinjected to further enhance production in the Recetor reservoir, which is an extension of Cupiagua field in the neighboring Santiago de las Atalayas license.
The Cusiana-Cupiaga complex is thought to contain about 4.1 tcf of gas. Equipo has responsibility for maintenance, power generation, and gas compression at Cusiana and Cupiagua fields., which provide nearly half of Colombia's annual oil production.
BP operates and holds a 63.33% interest in Recetor in the Llanos foothills of eastern Colombia, with the remaining interests held by Germany's Deilmann Erdol Erdgas GMBH 20% and Colombia's Inaquimicas SA 16.67%. (OGJ, Sept. 5, 1994, p. 44).
