Baker Hughes' worldwide rig count up 32 in September

The worldwide rotary rig count for September was 1,837, up 32 from the 1,805 counted in August, and down 439 from the 2,276 counted in September 2001, Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

HOUSTON, Oct. 8 -- The worldwide rotary rig count for September was 1,837, up 32 from the 1,805 counted in August, and down 439 from the 2,276 counted in September 2001, Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

The rig count excluding the US and Canada for September was 727, up 5 from the 722 counted in August, and down 39 from the 766 counted in September 2001.

The offshore rig count excluding the US and Canada for September was 233, up 11 from the 222 counted in August, and up 7 from the 226 counted in September last year.

The US rig count for September was 860, up 12 from the 848 counted in August, and down 333 from the 1,193 counted in September 2001. The Canadian rig count for September was 250, up 15 from the 235 counted in August, and down 67 from the 317 counted in September 2001.

Baker Hughes rotary rig counts are based on the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil and natural gas in the US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and the Asia Pacific.
