HOUSTON, Sept. 20 -- Trinidad Exploration & Development Ltd. is exploring for oil on the 45,000 sq km onshore and offshore Southwest Peninsula block southwest of Point Fortin.

The independent will drill Rapso-1, now spudded, to 8,600 ft and then Calypso-1 at 2 miles east-southeast of Rapso to 9,500 ft. Both are to test sands in the Tertiary Morne L'Enfer, Forest, and Cruse formations, said Toreador Resources Corp., Dallas, which holds 16.33% of TED.

Toreador said two wells in Erin Bay could be drilled in late 2002-early 2003. Rapso and Calypso are based on interpretation of 150 sq km of 3D seismic data.
