HOUSTON, Sept. 3 -- OAO Sibneft has signed an agreement with Baker Hughes Inc., Houston, under which the two firms will establish an operational center at Sibneft's upstream base in the Noyabrsk area of Western Siberia, where they will form a joint engineering group. Sibneft said that the initiative is part of its plan to drill more than 100 sidetrack wells in the area next year.

Baker Hughes' Centrilift subsidiary has already supplied Sibneft with over 1,000 submersible pumps, it said.

"The agreement with Sibneft represents the first service contract where Baker Hughes will establish operational bases and recruit national staff to work in the specialist areas where Baker Hughes excels," said Andy Szescila, Baker Hughes chief operating officer.

Sibneft and Baker Hughes have already worked together to design a development plan that would enhance production from existing oil wells in the Noyabrsk area using a number of the service firm's products and services for re-entry, directional, and multilateral wells, the companies said.
