HOUSTON, Sept. 4 -- BP Trinidad & Tobago (BPTT), Port of Spain, Trinidad, has announced the discovery of 1 tcf of gas (180 million boe) in its Iron Horse field off the east coast of Trinidad and Tobago.
"This confirms our long-held view that this country possesses a world-class gas basin," BPTT Chairman Robert Riley said.
Iron Horse was discovered in mid-July, 24 miles off Trinidad and Tobago's east coast close to the Amherstia, Cassia, and Red Mango fields. The jack up rig Chiles Coronado (now renamed the Ensco 76) drilled the discovery well in 230 ft of water. It was spudded on June 12, drilled vertically to 13,471 ft TD, and completed Aug. 8.
The company's second major natural gas discovery for 2002 and its fourth in 3 years, the discovery raises BPTT's estimated gas reserves to 17 tcf.
