HOUSTON, Sept. 13 -- Houston-based Atlantia Offshore Ltd., which has a turnkey contract from TotalFinaElf E&P USA Inc. to install a mono-column tension-leg platform on Matterhorn oil field in the Gulf of Mexico, awarded a subcontract to Paragon Engineering Services Inc., Houston, to provide facilities design and engineering.
Matterhorn field is in 850 m of water on Mississippi Canyon Block 243, about 170 km southeast of New Orleans. TotalFinaElf owns 100% of the field. Paragon said it expects to complete the core work for detailed engineering this month, and will, for the balance of the project, support Atlantia with fabrication oversight and precommissioning assistance.
Last year, Atlantia awarded Keppel Group unit Keppel FELS Ltd., Singapore, a $22 million contact to build a TLP hull for the Matterhorn project (OGJ Online, Oct. 24, 2001). Design of the 84 ft diameter column hull structure, to be built at the Pioneer yard in Singapore, is based on Atlantia's SeaStar design concept, which consists of a central moonpool and a Y-shaped base pontoon for attachment of mooring tendons (see photo, OGJ, Nov. 5, 2001, p. 8).
Technip-Coflexip Group affiliate Gulf Marine Fabricators, Aransas Pass, Tex., is responsible for foundation piles and the dry-tree topsides facility with full production, workover, utility, and accommodation capabilities. Topsides work, including procurement, fabrication, and outfitting, is scheduled for completion in May 2003.
