HOUSTON, Aug 23 -- An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire Aug. 19 at Statoil ASA's Kalundborg, Denmark refinery that injured one worker and damaged the plant's visbreaker, which separates heavy oil from lighter fractions.
Although the fire was quickly brought under control, refinery Senior Vice-President Nils Bjorn Jorday said the part of the refinery in which the fire occurred was immediately shut down to empty it of oil, an operation that was expected to take at least a day.
