FMC Technologies to provide wellhead trees for Devils Tower, Medusa

Mentor Subsea, an affiliate of J. Ray McDermott SA, has selected FMC Technologies Inc. to provide wellhead trees and associated services for Dominion Exploration & Production Inc.'s Devils Tower spar and Murphy Oil Corp.'s Medusa spar, both in the Gulf of Mexico.

HOUSTON, Feb. 7 -- Mentor Subsea, an affiliate of J. Ray McDermott SA, has selected FMC Technologies Inc. to provide wellhead trees and associated services for Dominion Exploration & Production Inc.'s Devils Tower spar and Murphy Oil Corp.'s Medusa spar, both in the Gulf of Mexico.

J. Ray McDermott will perform engineering, procurement, construction, and installation for both projects.

FMC said the Devils Tower spar on Mississippi Canyon 773 in 5,610 ft of water will be the world's deepest dry tree platform. The spar will have capacity to handle 60,000 b/d of crude. Pioneer Natural Resources Co. owns 25% of Devils Tower and operator Dominion holds the rest.

Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, will own the spar and pipeline (OGJ Online, Sept. 5, 2001).

The Medusa spar on Mississippi Canyon 582 in 2,223 ft of water will be capable of handling 40,000 b/d of crude and 110 MMcfd of gas. Agip Petroleum Co. Inc. has 25%, Callon Petroleum Co. 15%, and operator Murphy has the rest.

FMC will supply the surface wellhead and tree systems for both spars in the third quarter. Production from Medusa should start in the fourth quarter, and Devils Tower production should start in mid-2003.
