HOUSTON, Feb. 26 -- Oil production resumed in late January from Ceiba oil field on Block G off Equatorial Guinea, said Amerada Hess Corp. The field is producing at a rate of more than 50,000 b/d via Sendje Ceiba, a new floating production, storage, and offloading vessel.
Sendje Ceiba was converted from the Berge Hus very large crude carrier into an FPSO by Oslo's Bergesen DY Offshore, which completed the upgrade late last year (OGJ, Dec. 10, 2001, Newsletter, p. 8).
Sendje Ceiba, which replaces the Sendje Berge FPSO, has onboard processing capacity of 160,000 b/d of liquids and a water injection capacity of 135,000 b/d. The vessel, says Amerada Hess, "will extend field life and maximize oil recovery."
Amerada Hess, which holds 85% working interest in and serves as operator of Block G, added that more wells will be brought on stream this year and that field water injection is slated to begin later this month.
Energy Africa Ltd., Capetown, holds the remaining interest in Block G. Equatorial Guinea has a 5% carried interest in the field's production.
